Academies @ Roxborough Alumni Awarded PAI Scholarship

Mrs. Jenkins with alumni Mina McCallumRoxborough Administration and teachers attended the Philadelphia Academies Prom event on April 14th at the Lowes Hotel in Philadelphia.  The event celebrates and raises money for the Philadelphia Academies Inc. programs that benefit our students in the academy schools.  PAI’s mission is “To design and implement industry informed, career connected learning strategies for schools that position young people for success in college and the workforce.” One of PAI’s greatest features is that they continue to support their students into their post secondary education.  The ‘Pay It Forward’ PAI Alumni Scholarship is one of the ways they continue to support students.  This scholarship is awarded each year to a PAI Alumni who has overcome significant challenges to pursue their educational and life goals.

Roxborough was extremely proud that one of our own graduates Mina McCallum, pictured above with our principal Mrs. Jenkins, was the awardee this year.  Mina is a student at Penn State majoring in Advertising and Communications and is set to graduate in December 2018.  Mina was a student in the Academy of the Arts, Cinematography pathway while at Roxborough, now expanded to the Academy of Visual Arts Production.  During her acceptance Mina continually mentioned how her experiences at Roxborough guided her in her choice of majors and career path.  Pictured below: Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Doyle, Mr. Zavod, Mr. McGavin, Mr. Fesnak, Mrs. Henshaw and Mr. Scott were at the event showing their support.  Teachers attended the event thanks to the generosity of  Mr. Steve Rauscher who is the chairman of Occupational Advisory Committee for the Health Sciences and Research Academy.
