Social Justice Tour of Eastern State Penitentiary

Mrs. Yacker’s 10th grade English students toured Eastern State Penitentiary, specifically the “Prison’s Today: Questions in the Age of Incarceration” to explore themes of social justice that we had discussed in class.

Academies @ Roxborough English students along with Mrs. Yacker attended a field trip to West Chester University.  Students were there to see a performance of the play Antigone a Greek tragedy.  Students were treated to lunch by the university, and were also given a campus tour and College swag to take home.      …

10th grade English students at Roxborough toured the Barnes Foundation as an experience to read art as a text. Students used information and research gathered as well as their physical experience with the art to hypothesize the possible “realities” or “truths” within the paintings mimicking the same process used for literature in their English courses.
