National School Walkout: #ENOUGH

On Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 schools across the country participated in a National walkout to demand stricter gun laws.  The Academies @ Roxborough participated in the Walkout to demand safety for students at schools and to remember the lives lost in Florida.  Principal Jenkins along with other staff members supervised students as they peacefully gathered outside the school to show their support.  The walkout was exactly one month after the deadly shooting where 17 people were killed by a gunman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.  Students across the nation walked out for exactly 17 minutes, one minute for each of the victims.  The movement gained even more support with some broadcasters also going silent for the 17 minutes to show their support.  The National Student Walkout demanded three key actions from Congress:
— Ban assault weapons;
— Require universal background checks before gun sales;
— Pass a gun violence restraining order law that would allow courts to disarm people who display warning signs of violent behavior.
